The scary old tree

Looming over one of the two entrances to the cave of the 10th colossus (the one on the same side as "ICO beach") is a scary old tree, looking more like something from a Tim Burton movie than the rest of SoTCs' world. Outside the caves entrance you'll find a spot which an unusually large hawk consistently swoops over. If you grab this hawk it will fly you above the winding mountain path leading up to the cave.

At one point the hawk flies very close to an otherwise unreachable platform in the mountains. I've try unsuccessfully to land on this platform by letting go of the hawk at the right moment - give it a shot yourself if you're up there and tell me if you have any luck.

I have not beaten Hard and thus not the Hard Time Attack yet, but I have to wonder if maybe the parachute that I've heard of in Hard Time Attack could assist in this?

Or maybe in certain other random areas? I think this might be my drive to start playing again... hmm...

Love the Blog!
I'm also in the process of trying to explore the world of SoC. Inspired by this thread, I tried to reach the platform ... and succeeded after about 10 attempts.

As Lavkian suggested, using the parachute is the key. When the hawk fries near enough I jumped off it and used the parachute and drifted onto the ledge of green land you see up on the mountain. The platform I'm referring to is the one you see when the large hawk turns right after flying down the mountain path area. It is totally unreachable any other way.

But... I have some bad news. Once you get up there, you can't move around. When you try to run, you run in the same place. It won't even let you jump. You can shoot arrows and throw the spear, and they will behave normally and stick in the ground.

So, I guess it's cool to be able to say I made it up there, but the designers appear to have made it unplayable once you're there.
Won't stop me from trying to find other neat locations!

Take it easy!

Update,

After getting up there again and experimenting some more, it turns out you CAN move around ... you have to do it in a weird way though. Take the directional controller and jiggle it back and forth while running, and Wander will move forward slowly. Using this technique, I went around the platform to the other side, which is a large rock ledge and offers a great view of the south.
I wonder why they make it so hard to move up there? No jumping, and it's like you're stuck in molasses.

Hmmm, the area probably lacks collision detection if it really wasn't meant to be reached (Although, you'd think he'd just fall through the level geometry if that were the case).

It's cool that you got there though!

That hawk is very large! I've noticed that sometimes with hawks you grab their feet, (mostly, for me) you grab their tails.... I wonder if it makes any difference in your flight length...? :P

Otherwise, it's very odd that that particular bird is bigger than the norm....

-South of Dirge's domain is an area with a large dead tree upon it, comparable
in size to a Colossus, whereas most trees in the game are comparatively small
fruit-growing trees.
